Join the Intercontinental Day of Action against the Trans-Pacific Partnership, NAFTA and Corporate Globalization
On January 31, people in communities across Canada, the United States and Mexico will be taking to the streets for an Intercontinental Day of Action against unfair trade deals.
Many Council of Canadians chapters will be holding events to raise awareness about the damaging effects of the now 20-year-old North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), a deal that not only hurt workers and farmers, but also created new rules for international investment. NAFTA paved the way for other deals, including the looming Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), a 12-nation free trade and corporate rights deal being pushed by the United States.
The Day of Action will focus on these and other so-called “trade” deals that allow corporations to challenge public policies and environmental regulations that infringe on corporate profits. Planned actions include rallies outside of politicians’ offices, marches, information sessions and banner drops.
