Participate with your students in this Canada Writes Challenge. Consider the issue of belonging: Where do I belong? How do I belong? When do I belong? Why do I belong? Who do I belong to? Use your thoughts to write your own heartfelt true story about belonging and submit it to the challenge.
There are two age categories 12 – 18, and 19 and over which makes this perfect for students. Please note that the deadline for submissions is November 3. Check the details, rules and regulations on The Canada Writes website.
At PAGE we’d love to hear your thoughts, or your student thoughts on Canada Writes: Do I belong?. Please write to us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Consider the following:
- How did you or your students participate? What did you/they gain from the experience?
- As a teacher what did learn about your students from doing this exercise with them? Where you surprised at anything in particular?
- This topic is inspired by former Governor General Adrienne Clarkson as it is the theme to her 2014 Massey Lectures. Although not generally aimed at students, have you, do you, or will you use the Massey Lectures in any way in your classroom teaching?
- How is this topic important to peace and social justice?
